Rates
for Jefferson Parish, Orleans Parish, including special taxing district
rates and St. Tammany Parish are provided to you for ease in budgeting
for your property tax bill.
Computing your property tax is
easy. If you file and qualify for the $75,000 homestead exemption,
your taxes will be lower than without the exemption. Only one exemption
per person or married couple and exemption is designed for the home the
owner lives in, not for investment property.

Homes
are reassessed every 4 years and done by June 30 of that year. In
October the parish budget is updated with actual costs and a revision
to the end of the year, the costs are divided into the assess values
the mileage rate is determined. Bills are mailed in November each year
and are payable by December 31st. Late payments are subject to fines.
Jefferson residents pay their property taxes at the end of the year
which is the opposite of Orleans Parish Residents .
Orleans Parish Tax Rates for 2008
Orleans
Parish-Property Taxes 504-658-1360 2008 tax bills are mailed and due
on January 31 at the beginning of the tax year. Orleans parish
assesses a seperate police and fire tax that must be paid regardless of
the value of the house. This year that amount is $ 78.53. This is in
addition to the mileage rate that is applied to the non-exempted value
of the property. In addition some homes fall in either Special Taxing
Districts or Flat Fee Districts and if your home falls into these
areas, then that is an additional tax you must add to the 2 fees above.
